Dungeon Crawl Classics: Twilight of the Solstice Part 1/ Road (Crew Report) / Scratch Off Character Sheet Initial Run
Ran Friday night for the Rising Sun High crowd - using scratch off character sheets. We made it through the Winter Wolves and explored two caves. Really only just starting. One hero didn't survive the first encounter and failed her roll-over. After the appearance of the Jotan (Chaos Ice Giant) with a second pack of wolves, the amnesiac characters were totally dodging any confrontation and hiding in the caves more than exploring. As soon as they found a place to rest they did...and woke up with 2/3s the party older, the other third younger - and suddenly realizing that there was something other than ice monsters attacking!
I was pretty liberal with letting the players risk (in a combat turn) a DC check to scratch off a attribute - but NONE of them would risk the DC15 or DC20 checks! {Despite my coaxing}
As a result, they knew what class some of their characters were (Dwarven Blacksmith and Halfling Tailor made guessing pretty simple) BUT refused to try for either Character class or Class Abilities - so they were just high hit point 0-levels in many ways.
Everyone had a great time and there were some classic DCC high excitement moments...Crits and Fumbles, a player having to make the decision to kill an flying enemy or make a controlled fall into a mound of Corvus guano!
