Harvest of Darkness, A Kingdoms of Kalamar Campaign played with Dungeon Crawl Classics
I started my twist in the existing DCC campaign, by putting the campaign in the world of Kenzer's Kalamar, and converting on the fly to DCC...what could go wrong?
The Party:
Tammi the Tattoo'd Thief
Davne the Dwarf Warrior Woman
Magnus the Dejy Tribal Warrior
Bentley the very corrupted Wizard
Thievin Steven the Resurrected Thief
Nerelon the Fae-touched satyr warrior
Jaelle the Cleric of the Unseen One
The group continued on the task that Baron Westlake had sent you on several adventures ago...namely to travel to the next closest port city (now revealed as Prompeldia) to establish trade relations (after the destruction of Portsmouth). After a tip off from a pair of Dejy (think native American) about people and animals being abducted, the party continued to the small village of Narmaren. The village was pretty primitive; tents and a few wooden shacks, with a single 2 story stone tavern (a former barracks from the Faded Empire). The Faded Empire (actually called Eldor) had fought two wars to try to suppress Prompeldia's independence (and failed). The second war ended at the Battle of Narmaren, just under a mile north of the village.
After accepting some offers of rewards, one from a Warden, another from a Spice Merchant, the party started collecting rumors of the disappearances. Bentley summoned a flock of hawks to recon the area. They found;
- a possible ogre in a cave north of the village
- a sphinx in the Elos Desert
- a party of gnome adventurers on the fringe of the desert
- some slave traders
- a Krangi (hobgoblin) merchant caravan
- someone setting up a base at the battlefield
The party finally decided to head to the battlefield and coming to the base of a tall hill, they spotted a leather tent surrounded by six emaciated looking humans. As they emerged from the treeline, the sickly looking people descended the hill...and were identified as zombies!
While zombies might not deal a great deal of damage, they were tough to kill. By the time the party had laid the zombies low, they spotted two armored figures closing on them. The two turned out t be clerics of the Congregation of the Dead, a church of the undead Chaos God. Despite putting the two clerics down quickly, Jaelle was Cursed with undead blindness in one eye (-2 to hit) and -2 to all luck penalties - until she builds a shrine to the Congregation of the Dead.
WIth the battle over the two dead priests were looted, specifically, Jaelle found a scroll of Speak with the Dead and the apprentice cleric was rolled over and taken as a captive. As an afterthought, Thievin' Steven decided to cut the heads off of all of the six zombies and the dead head cleric...with what future consequences?
And then the group headed back to the village, to see if they recognized any of the heads as missing people.
