Frozen Hell, The Gift of Suss, Part 1

The Clan of Ogg, a primitive group of cave dwellers living on the odd tundra, have sent a party of their bravest hunters, gatherers, and others to investigate a fallen piece of their Sun God Suss. Unfortunately, the Gift has fallen in the Dread Forrest, a distant and foreboding wooded area in a great depression zone.

Our (0-level) heroes set out in a straight line for the forest (surprisingly, John is very direct in his tactics). After half a day crossing the hunting lands the party encountered a wounded lion dragging a strange corpse of a red man. To get a closer look, the party fought the lion (losing one in the process) and looked over the red corpse, one took the remains of a silver tunic the strange man wore and all were impressed by the 7 fingered hands.

The party continued their journey and camped for the night. Through the night they were attacked by hyenadeons, which killed three more of the party.

Just before entering the forest, the party encountered a party from the Tribe of Tahor (worshippers of lightning) who had journeyed from their caves to find the Gift. Although not fighting, the two groups were not yet ready to cooperate.

The Ogg tribe cut a straight path to the Gift. Narrowly avoiding a red woman and fighting a small group of narl-gnarls (cannibal primitive hobbits) and made their way to the gift, joining with the survivors of the Tahor tribe to enter the cave entrance (strangely rectangular) together...and then seemed to be thrown into some ancient prehistoric past...and get attacked by a flock of man-eating dinosaur chickens...who stripped the meat off of at least one tribesman.
