Brother Hilario...not so funny. (Servant of God (Cuba) Episode 2) [Call of Cthulhu, Jazz Age]
The Cast:
Frank - Conspiracy Theorist
Annie - Sensationalist Reporter
Luther - Jamaican Ship Captain
Aston Wainwright - Brit Archaeologist
Consul William Ware - US Embassy political appointee
The group started out heading to the US Consulate with Luther helping the shaken Annie - still upset from the more than creepy events of last episode. They had decided that after finding some of the unsettling aspects of the case (heart ripped out, seeming immortal artist Hilario, etc) that it was time to brief at least one of the group's employers (the US Government). Hence, they met Consul Ware, who interrogated them about the whole death of the Monsignor and the odd goings on. Frank finally showed up, and thankfully did not share all of his conspiracy theories at once - so Consul Ware opted to accompany the group to visit the Order of Father Fernando north of Havana.
At the monastery, the group chased down Brother Antonio and questioned him about the Monsignor. Luther slipped away to sneak around. Annie went to the chapel and found the old jerk, Brother Simon. Three paths of inquiry...the group with Antonio dug out the first hand account of what the Monsignor had been up too, Annie eventually convinced Brother Simone to share his illicit text of the Life of Father Frenando, and Luther ran afoul of Brother Hilario. Hilario crept up on the creeping Luther and fought with him. The large Jamaican sailor was like a baby to the skinny middle aged monk and after yelling to bring help, Luther suffered having his heart ripped out the back of his body. Hilario took a bite of the fresh heart even as Ware, Wainwright, and Frank fired pistols into him (with no effect). Frank remembered his punch dagger from Trinidad and pulled it and charged, Hilario was shocked when that weapon did some serious damage...and he disappeared.
Meanwhile, Annie found a passage that lead her to believe that father Frenando...could be Hilario? And could be still alive on the Island of Pines?
Gathering together, the group decided to take Luther's Emerald Empress to the Isle of Pines, but first, Consul Ware arranged for a US Destroyer to meet them (in a few days). To coordinate activities, Lt Commander Andrews of the US Lardner assigned a semaphore specialist to accompany the group. Also, Aston determined that there was a "phony" archaeologist looking into the abandoned mission on the Isle of Pines, a Lady MacCeallach...
