Tales of the Caribbean - Call of Cthulhu/Puerto Rico Part 3

Cast:
Frank - conspiracy theorist
Annie - sensationalist reporter for the Hurst papers
Luther - Jamaican trawler captain and adventurer
Charlie - Archaeology grad student in search of the Fountain of Youth

After the death of Nadla last episode the group retreated to a hospital or in Frank's case went on the lam. Also, arriving to search for the Fountain of Youth at the wrong time, was Charlie Gould, an archaeology grad student from Miskatonic University and onetime classmate of Bosley the missing historian.

After much shenanigans, the party regrouped and headed in search of Jacinta, the daughter of the dead Nalda. After preparing themselves, the group headed into El Yunque rain forest.

They soon found an old man with a fishing boat who offered to take them to Jacinta's home for $2. So down river they went into the primordial Yunque, travelling for miles through a primordial jungle.  After miles of river, they came upon a dock leading up to a yellow and green painted house. Meeting them was Jacinta...a 12 year old girl! Despite the appearances, and even the old fisherman was scared of the girl, it turns out Jacinta was actually in her 50's. She explains that she wants to destroy the fountain as ancient things keep her here as a guardian.  She hopes to have a real life after the fountain is destroyed. The party agrees to help and they all leave early the next day (except the old man who took his boat back).

At first the trail is not so bad, but then Jacinta starts heading up cliffs and it gets hot. Between falling down cliffs, insect bites, and heat stroke the party arrives at the pool of life pretty ragged. The first thing they notice are the black flowers (from episode one) and the nasty looking water. Jacinta says not everything looks as you would expect it to. She leads then to an ancient ceida tree that has a large flat stone at its base and a constant flow of blackish green water. Jacinta tells the group to lift the stone, which Luther and Charles do...only to reveal an ancient conquistador zombie!!!

The zombie leaps from the hole, avoiding the stone that Luther had dropped on it...and Jacinta goes in to villain monologue mode. She pulls away her disguises...Jacinta, Nalda, and Lola! The final persona is a strangely dressed native Taino woman, with purple eyes who claims to be Princess Guanina from the ancient bible, from the land of K'n-yan, above the black gulfs of N'Kai. She says that the party is at the end of the game and must now choose eternal servitude of fight to the death...which Luther answers with a grenade! {The grenade misses horribly, but it was a worthy reaction)  The initial hail of bullets does nothing and soon Charlie is down. Annie risks it all to heal him a little, and everyone concentrates on the Princess and dodging. It was looking bad when Frank put a .455 Webley round in Guanina's forehead! Just as things were looking up, the last Vejigante demon showed up and cause the party to fight in two directions.  Luther, the wounded Charlie and Annie concentrated on Don Sotomayor (the zombie) and Frank held off the demon. {Honestly, I expected a TPK here - but there was some real good rolls when it counted, and some really bad rolls on my part - when it counted} Frank whittled down the demon, but held it off long enough for the other three to bring Sotomayor (a TANK) down. Then Charlie, who spent most of the fight figuring out how to use the Princess's crystal rod guessed how to use it - as a cattleprod! He was able to take out the demon as a last hit.

After, the Fountain's hole (actually a portal to K'n-yan) closed, Sotomayor rotted away, and the demon turned back into the missing Miskatonic student, Martin Bosley.

The group makes off with a picture of the rotted corpse of Sotomayor, the gold that was in his eyes and mouth, and his Toledo-steelsword.

(After game, but worth noting)

The Game won, and enemies defeated, the survivors are still deep in the El Yunque rain forrest. They wander for another 21 hours seeking an escape, many near death, before they encounter a sympathetic group of hunters who help them back to civilization.

Once healed, the party finds that any warrants or official interest in them has disappeared. Apparently winning the Game has its advantages...

NEXT EPISODE: The characters travel to Haiti on a grim mission for an old friend in Toil the Fields!
