The party completed their foggy journey on the USS Seabird and disembarked at Pimental Pier the sea port near Chiclayo. The ever present fog is still with them. Huaman, the Groundsman for Herr Landers estate was waiting with three large autos for the party. The drivers quickly gathered the bags and they whole group was soon racing to Herr Landers sugar plantation. Perhaps a little over halfway there, all of the cars stalled simultaneously. Many passengers exited and attempted to identify what was wrong with the cars - no one was able to before the three autos started up again (on their own). As everyone piled back in, Maeria noticed that the time on her watch had gone back an hour! When she pointed this out to others they all noticed that their watches had set back an hour as well.
At the Landers Plantation, the group was received by the estate manager and shown to their rooms.  The plantation house was smaller that Lander's mansion, but filled with mezo-american artifacts...including a creepy gold mask that interested Armbruster.
At dinner, the party decided to head out to some pyramids (weak-ass pyramids) before heading on to the village where the original expedition disappeared.
The next morning, the party woke to Vargas in his two piece suit, the Germans (except for Fraulein Falk) in their uniforms, and Shore Patrol in his Navy Blue jumpsuit - as usual. {Out of character: None of these were "as usual" but in character, that is what they always remembered, down to the stylized wolf's paw on the three German's right sleeve...}
The group rode to the pyramids, 20 that looked more like termite mounds, surrounding Devil's Hill - a large either pyramid or earthen mound. There they met Curan - a witch doctor who sold them some protective charms and a couple of goat herders, who warned them all to go home less they suffer at the hands of a demon roaming the countryside...of course they went ahead.
They camped that evening, which passed uneventfully and the next morning Vargas the French-Canadian Lawyer woke early. (yes - Johns character changed from a Peruvian Lumberjack to a Canadian Naturalist Lawyer overnight - and everyone remembered that that is the way it always was...)
The party continued to the village of Yiyay and after Fr Falk bribed the villagers with presents, the villagers confirmed that teh explorer camp was only 10 miles into the highlands, and that the villagers would not go there due to demons stealing people and animals.Excited that they were so close, Falk insisted that they push on, despite some protests of caution, they did and within two hours they had arrived at the camp.
There, Falk raced forward to the one tent with Sly running at her heels, pulling the tent flap aside they found an emaciated man sleeping on a camp cot! LT Everhart and LT Richards entered the tent and began caring for the man even as Faramund Armbruster identified the man as a shrunken Dr. Etzel Hauer (leader of the lost expedition). After some medicine Hauer came around telling the party that the expedition had only been there two months and that the others had gone ahead to some of the deeper ruins in the mountains, while he had stayed back to look at the ruins near the camp (and because he had gotten sick). Frau Falk left to organize a search while LT Everhart did not believe that the man was speaking truthfully. Sly went to look at Hauer's desk and the man leapt up and tried to stab Shore Patrol! Everhart grappled the Doctor and Nurse Phil shot the man full of morphine. In the sesk they found that the doctors journal turned towards delusions of his dead wife and daughter being with him. There are drawings of a sacrificial knife and of a mask similar to the one at Landers estate that so interested Armbruster. Clearly the man had a tropical disease of some sort.
In another tent, Maeria found most of the belongings of the other three explorers...including items like razors, which did not make sense for someone heading deeper into the mountains to leave behind. She also finds remains of a large bonfire near some ruins.
As night falls, the porters set camp but refuse to stay in this place, leaving only Huaman and the party...
