Dark Heresy: Chapter I: Shattered Hope

Our Friday night gaming group has let me start a Dark Heresy campaign. These are out stories...

Cast
Z – young feral world hitwoman
Trantor the Bald – Old, bald, psyker
Red – Ex-Catachan (feral world) Imperial Guardsman
Littilus – Imperial psyker
Barbosa – Cultist of the God-Emporah!

A diverse group is enroute for the Callaxis Sector capital planet of Scintilla aboard the massive voidship The Brazen Sky. Coming from different worlds and backgrounds, somehome each of them has attracted the attention of the Imperial Inquisition. When the Brazen Sky drops out of warp for a scheduled cargo pick-up on the mining world of Sepherus Secundus, the ship’s celestrial choir received a telepathic message from the passenger’s new masters on Scintilla. There has been a miner uprising on Sepherus Secundus and in the course of repressing the miners, the Imperial Guard (the army) have found something calling for Inquisitional investigation. Since the recruits are on hand, this will be a good test of their abilities.
They land on the planet and get briefed by the Imperial Guard Commissar that as the rebellion was suppressed, some rebels fled to the Gongonid mines nearby. A platoon of the Guard followed and everything went well until the platoon got to a section of the mines called the Shatters. There they were attacked by mutants, psykics and worse. The Commissar knew his duty sealed the mine and called for the Inquisition. The Acolytes are less than expected, but will have to do. They are to enter the mines and cull the mutant, the xenos and the heretic.
The Acolytes were able to get some grenades and other gear from the supply shop at the base before entering the mines, including a map/dataslate. As they traveled, they encountered several creepy scenes of death or odd sounds, but also resolved some teamwork issues; Z the assassin made a good scout, Red the soldier made a good combat type Barbosa the Priest seemed a pretty good close combat type and the two psykers worked well as artillery and special services in combat.
Arriving at the Shatters, the group determined to clear the area in a clockwise fashion. They discovered and slayed a number of mutants cowering rebels and “changed” guardsmen. Observing a pink light, Red directed the group to a chamber with a strange pink crystal. The crystal pulsed and some of the Acolytes suffered minor mutations, which they thought best to keep to themselves. Its first effort failing, the crystal tried again and summoned forth a plague daemon. Under a barrage of fire and melee weapons, the daemon was suppressed and the crystal shattered banishing the daemon. In the aftermath the group found a large book bound in human skin, although with only a few pages. Thinking better than to read it, they bagged up the book and returned to the surface.
While they had to wait for the Commissar to open the seal on the mine, they were soon able to depart the planet with their first successful mission…except for the mutations, of course.
